CAF fines Nigeria $5,000 for poor crowd control

Spectators climbed electronic scoreboard and other platforms to watch the Gabon 2017 AFCON qualifier between the Super Eagles clash and Egypt in March. CAF fined Nigeria for poor crowd control during the game…recently.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary committee yesterday announced a $5,000 fine on Nigeria for poor crowd control at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, where the Super Eagles hosted Egypt in a Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier in March.The organisers of the match allowed a crowd of over 40,000 inside the stadium designed to hold 25,000 spectators.

The Super Eagles and the Pharaohs drew 1-1 in that encounter, with the Egyptians subsequently defeating Nigeria 1-0 in the return fixture to stop the Eagles from qualifying for the competition. CAF also fined Egypt $5,000 because of the excessive use of lasers by their fans during the second match played in Alexandria. CAF.

CAF also warned Nigeria of further sanctions if similar incidents occurred.Also punished by the African football ruling body are a player and a coach of Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, who were adjudged to have behaved badly during their CAF Champions League game against Enyimba of Aba in Sousse.

The player, Ahmed Akaichi, and Coach Faouzi Benzarti, were expelled from the game for using offensive language and insults towards the referee
They were also suspended for four matches and fined $5,000.Teams from DR Congo, Sudan, Comoros, The Gambia and Kenya were also sanctioned by CAF for various offences.
