Enugu – A community in the Uzo-Uwani area of Enugu State has criticised security agencies for abandoning them during attacks by Fulani herdsman on Monday.
According to
Punch, the people of Ukpabi Nimbo said police failed to act on "credible information" that was provided to them before the attacks.
Approximately 20 people were reported o have been killed in the state
Reports indicated that over 100 armed cattle rearers stormed the community, killing indiscriminately and razing buildings in the process.
Prior to the attack, the group of herdsmen had been recruiting gunmen from Nasarawa in preparation for the deadly ambush.
Many of the villagers escaped to the nearby Uzo-Uwani area, where many of the natives in the community are fearing for their safety in light of more attacks.
The villagers said they were abandoned even after they alerted security agencies to the plan to attack them.
“They (Fulani herdsmen) did not take us unawares, we knew they were coming.
“We are not happy; we have been crying for more than two weeks that our community is under threat. Now, over 20 people are dead.
“We are still discovering corpses; we discovered one corpse this morning and so many corpses are still in the bush,” one of the villagers was quoted as saying.
